Joel Wallis, CSW
Joel joined Angel Oak Family Counseling in 2019. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Utah Valley University, while working in residential treatment. It was during this time he decided he wanted to pursue graduate studies and become a therapist. He completed his Master’s in Social Work from Brigham Young University while working with adolescents and young adults in residential treatment.
In addition to working for several years with adolescents and young adults struggling with mental health and behavioral challenges, Joel’s clinical skills were honed while working on the forensic unit at the Utah State Hospital. He began his work in private practice in 2018 and enjoyed being able to work with clients in that setting. Joel’s passion for therapy comes from his desire to help others recognize their potential and gain the confidence to realize that potential.
Originally from Arizona, Joel has been in Utah since 2007 and considers it home. He loves the mountains – and the snow! In addition to hobbies of reading, rock climbing, and spending time with friends & family, Joel has become passionate about trail running and participates in several trail/obstacles races each year. Currently one of his favorite pastimes is trail running in the rain while listening to audiobooks/podcasts.
Outside of work and trail running, Joel’s true joy comes from his beautiful wife of 5 years and their two amazing daughters, who keep him busy.
